PESTICIDES: IMPACT ON ENVIRONMENT, PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Due to the growing world population, the existing agricultural system is under immense strain to ensure that food requirements can be satisfied using the same resources as before, such as land, water, and other natural resources Herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, nematicides, fertilisers, and soil amendments are currently being utilised in greater quantities than they were in the past in the process of enhancing crop yield. Currently, pesticides are the only class of chemicals that are purposefully sprayed to the environment with the goal of suppressing plant and animal pests, as well as protecting agricultural and industrial products from contamination. Pesticides are beneficial to crops, but they also have a harmful influence on the environment that must be considered before applying them. Our immediate environment includes everything around us, including the natural elements, people, and the indoor spaces in which we live and work, among other things. The environment includes air, soil, water, plants, animals, residences, restaurants, office buildings, and factories, as well as all that is included within them and their surroundings. If you are going to use a pesticide, you need to think about how it will harm the environment before using it. Most pesticides, on the other hand, don't work by directly targeting a particular insect; rather, during their application, they have an adverse effect on non-target plants and animals. The use of pesticides on a regular basis may result in the extinction of species. Hazardous chemicals are threatening the existence of many birds, aquatic species, and mammals, including humans. Many pesticides are not easily degradable, and as a result, they stay in soil, leak into groundwater and surface water, and damage the surrounding environment in significant quantities. In order to kill, prevent, repel, or otherwise negatively impact any living organism (the pest), pesticides are by their very nature hazardous to some degree. This is due to the fact that people employ pesticides to kill, prevent, repel, or otherwise adversely affect some living organism. Once a person is exposed to a sufficient amount of a toxic substance, even the least harmful items, as well as those that are natural or organic, can create health issues. Their chemical qualities determine whether they can enter the body and bioaccumulate in food chains, which can have an impact on human health. In addition to the toxicity of the chemicals (Pesticide Ingredients), the amount of exposure to the product determines the likelihood of developing health problems as well. Pesticides may also be more harmful to specific persons than others, including children, pregnant women, and sick or ageing populations, to name a few examples. A comprehensive assessment reveals that extensive pesticide use has a number of severe environmental consequences that cannot be disregarded. When it comes to environmental sustainability and global stability, pesticides are a source of concern. In addition, the chapter discusses the prevention and control of pesticide misuse.
