Inspired by biological processes, anion•••π interactions1 have been explored in multidisciplinary areas of research such as recognition and sensing2, catalysis3, etc. Because of the weak nature of anion•••π interactions, such interaction is still a challenging task to explore in an artificial system, especially in a polar solvent(s). In this presentation, we will discuss the role of the anion (as template) in photochemical [2+2] cycloaddition reaction through anion•••π interactions to form a four-membered cyclic ring.
The hydrogen atom of such a four-membered ring is very sensitive to pH and temperature. The main problem is the removal of the template after the photochemical [2+2] cycloaddition reaction. Anion (as a template) can be removed easily. The complete process and role of anion•••π interactions will be discussed in the present conference.
Keywords: Anion•••π interactions, photochemical [2+2] cycloaddition reaction, hydrogen-bond.
